About the work:
This work is an exploration of ideas of voice, surface and the interactions that occur in a musical context between the two. Through close tactile engagement of the multitude of surfaces that exist in a string quartet the piece cultivates vibrant voices that gradually emerge, much as plants do from the ground following a long winter or in the aftermath of a wildfire. This process is intensely tactile and granular, like sifting through soot or working with charcoal, it gets under your nails and stays with you.
